The Branch has continued to hold its short monthly online catch ups and a well-attended hybrid meeting in June.

The June meeting took place at Telford Central Fire Station and afterwards the Station Manager took members and guests on a tour of the station and one of the appliances, briefing the group on the equipment stowed therein and the roles of a firefighter.

Earlier, Matt Angell from the host service’s Business Fire Safety team gave an interesting update on fire safety legislation and the obligations around fire risk assessments for landlords and occupiers of commercial premises. Matt explored some of the common issues arising from audits of business premises and what steps should be taken to ensure that compliance obligations are met and that premises are safe. The presentation proved very useful for branch members with responsibilities for FM and being a landlord or tenant of commercial premises.

Dawn Toy, Sue Millward and Catherine Hawksworth from Telford & Wrekin Council gave a presentation on regeneration and investment projects and programmes across the Borough. Highlights included the Oakengates Theatre Quarter and the Wellington market refurbishment, together with commercial developments and inward investment leveraged through the ‘Telford Land Deal’. The projects showed how different funding sources including Levelling Up, Towns Fund, and an agreement with the Homes and Communities Agency around surplus sites, could be used to deliver an ambitious regeneration and investment programme.

The April online catch up featured a presentation from AMP Clean Energy about Battery Box storage.

Ian Lane Interim Regional Director at the Canal and River Trust talked about the CRT’s development and regeneration role at the July catch up.

Local Government Reorganisation, asset valuation indexation and support for APC candidates have been frequent topics of conversation between members at these regular online sessions.

We’ve been pleased to welcome new members from Broxtowe Borough Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and Leicestershire County Council.
